Gig Review for Berlin Berlin, Puppet Rebellion,The Reveurs and a Matt Fryers at Academy 3 in Manchester

I recently attended a gig in Manchester at the Academy 3 on the 19th of April, Saturday.

I was invited by my good friends Puppet Rebellion, as they were support to Berlin Berlin. Of course, as I love the Puppets I had to accept

Matt Fryers was first up, a solo acoustic guitar/songwriter, but don't be fooled by the Mohawk, although this also says a lot about this young man. He  sings and plays so soulfully that it pulls you in to the story. I have listened to him on souncloud this week and the more I hear him, the more I love his style. A little gritty and soulful with songs for the soul. Pop over to soundcloud and have a listen, you will NOT be disappointed I assure you.

You can find Matt on Twitter, Facebook, soundcloud and ReverbNation

Next up were The Reveurs a four piece rock / indie band, who had the crowd going wild, dancing fit to bust too.

Formed in late 2013, the band consists of Gary Nelson (vocals, guitar), Iain Brewster (guitar/backing vocals), Thom Bedford (bass, backing vocals) and Ben Devenport (drums), combining their musical inspirations and talents to come up with a sound and style that is an intense, unique and lyrically exciting audio journey. The previous quote was stolen audaciously from their website.

The band are signed up to Scruff of the neck records who you can find on Twitter , who are an independent record label based in Manchester.

You can find The Reveurs on Twitter,  Facebook , soundcloud and their website.

You can catch up with The Reveurs on the 22nd of May, Thursday at The Roadhouse, Manchester

Next up, my mates Puppet Rebellion, who tonight had their new drummer join the line up, Danny Moss formerly of the band Last Party.  . Bittersweet, as it is very sad to say goodbye to Chris Carcamo, their original drummer. Fabulous set and one of my ( and a lot of other people's faves) The Greatest Lie Ever Told (the first track I ever heard from them. ) This had people up, dancing and singing along. The acoustics at the Academy made the Puppets sound the best I have ever heard them. These gorgeous boys are going to go far, mark my words. Always ready to come and chat to you after they have come off stage too.

Back in February  I watched Puppet Rebellion launch their latest EP No Means Yes at Gullivers in Manchester to a packed audience and have seen their following grow ever since their debut. The band have so far released two critically acclaimed EPs, Chemical Friends and No Means Yes.

The line up for the band is now is Si Monaghan, singer and frontman, Danny Moss on drums, Paul Trochowski -guitars, Jim Halliwell on bass guitar and finally Craig Gibson -guitars. Puppet Rebellion were formed in January 2013

Their play list included The Greatest Lie Ever Told, Piroutte, and Tame Impostor.

Find them on Twitter, Facebook Soundcloud,,  website and finally YouTube

Go on , go and give the lads a like and a follow

Tell them Scarlett sent you

.

And now for the headliners at this event, a band I had never seen before but look forward to seeing more of in future, Berlin Berlin.

The band line up consists of Jonny Holland -vocals/keys, Stuart Winnington - guitar/keys, and Jordan Hunstone last but not least on the drums. They signed to the new Manchester record label MUK Records in January last year after virtually stealing the show when guesting at the labels launch party the previous October.

Their debut single Josef, an electronica/art house hybrid, was released on the 7th of July last year accompanied by a launch party at Manchester's Soup Kitchen.

Radio support has been garnered by the likes of XFM's Eddie Temple Morris and caught the attention of The Daily Mirror, Digital Spy, Yahoo, American tastemaster Idolator and had The Huffington Post asking "are these the new Killers?"......

Their latest EP Geography will be available on MUK Records from the 19th of May 2014, and will include a fantastic cover version of the Furniture track Brilliant Minds, a particular favourite of mine. I sang along and danced to this as they played this at the Academy.

Berlin Berlin play list was as follows;

Colourblind (instrumental track)
Josef (debut single) - http://youtu.be/Lcf4h_Xm95Q
Black horse hotel (soundcloud link https://soundcloud.com/mukrecords/berlin-berlin-black-horse-hotel)
Never wake up
Brilliant Mind (cover / reworking of seminal track by 'Furniture' https://soundcloud.com/berlin-berlin-official/berlin-berlin-brilliant-mind-1)
Be Here
Streetlights (https://soundcloud.com/berlin-berlin-official/berlin-berlin-street-lights-1)
Geography

A very cool, got together band, with an amazing look, and the right moves. Another band certainly heading for the big stages across the world. One to look out for.
