CARLA’S
COWBOYS
The
Cowboys of Cavern County Book One
By
Bella Settarra
Cavern
County in the mountains of South Dakota houses an eclectic mix of
folk. Ménage is very common (although not compulsory!) and most of
the residents have a laid-back, open-minded approach to life. Here,
the hillbillies rub shoulders with the landed gentry and the line
between the ‘have’s and the ‘have-nots’ is a distinctly
blurred one – especially after a trip to the local bar!
Folks
here are friendly, unfriendly, quiet, noisy, helpful, unhelpful –
just like anywhere else, really, but one thing they all have in
common: they sure love to love!
She
can hide her secrets, but she can’t hide her heart…
While
on the run from Jerome Pearson, her dangerous boyfriend, Carla
Burchfield falls in love with hunky twin cowboys, Matt and Dyson
Shearer.
When
Pearson turns up in town Carla’s first instinct is to flee.
Reluctantly leaving the guys, she makes her escape, only to be met
with an accident en route. Local rancher, Aiden Fielding finds her
and takes her back to his palatial spread, where he calls the doctor
and the sheriff’s office. To Carla’s horror she discovers that
the local Deputy Sheriff is, in fact, Dyson Shearer.
Feeling
upset and betrayed she flees the ranch, taking with her a broken
heart and a head full of secrets the guys would never believe.
When
Pearson catches up with her, so does her past. Can she ever convince
her cowboys that her reasons for hiding the stolen cash from a
shop-raid are actually honorable? And can they persuade her to stay
with them even though the affluent Aiden Fielding appears to have so
much more to offer her?

Cowboys – Story Excerpt
Matt
Shearer arrived at the general store just after six o’ clock and
was disappointed to find Carla gone. He had hoped to get there a
little earlier, but the dang fence he’d been mending was more
damaged than he had thought. The whole spread badly needed work, but
that was going to cost money he didn’t have right now.
“She
left just a few minutes ago,” Delores told him, “she can’t have
gone far.”
“Where’s
she staying?”
“I
don’t think she said,” Delores said with a shake of her head. She
was a fine-looking woman and her gray, curly hair shook as she spoke.
“Frank, do you know where Carla’s staying?”
Frank
came out from the back, also shaking his head. “I didn’t like to
ask.”
“Hopeless!”
Delores rolled her eyes with a tut.
“There
can’t be too many places around here,” Matt said as he turned to
go.
“Have
you checked the diner—she might have gone for some supper?” Frank
offered.
Matt
waved his hand in acknowledgement and went to find out. After that he
tried every shop and even a few houses where they sometimes offered
bed and breakfast. No one had seen her. There wasn’t a hotel in
Pelican’s Heath, so he had soon run out of options. She must have
found somewhere further afield but he had no idea which direction to
look in.
With
a disgruntled sigh he went over to the bar and ordered a cold beer.
“You
look like you’ve lost a dollar and found a penny.”
Matt
looked up and saw his brother sauntering toward him.
“Hey,
Dyson. It’s not a dollar I’ve lost—it’s a girl.”
The
bartender brought over their drinks and Matt chugged his eagerly.
“Any
girl or a particular girl?”
“A
particular one—a very
particular one, actually.” Matt couldn’t help the smirk that
spread across his face when he thought about Carla.
“Anyone
I know?” His brother gave him a sideways look as they both chugged
their drinks.
“I
wouldn’t think so. She’s new in town. Carla Burchfield. Got a job
with Delores over at the store.”
Dyson’s
eyebrows shot up. “I haven’t met her yet. Mind you, I haven’t
been around here much today.”
“Well
I hope you got a good price for those cattle, bro, ’cause there’s
a whole lot of work needs doing up the road.” Matt glanced
hopefully at his brother but was disappointed at the look in his
eyes.
“Nobody’s
got any money by the looks of things, bud. I got what I could but it
won’t make us rich, I’m afraid.” Dyson shook his head glumly.
“Hey,
guys, how’s it going?” Aiden Fielding strolled up to the bar.
“Hey,
Aiden. Same as ever, you know. Matt’s lost a woman, though, you
seen any?” Dyson winked at their friend as he teased his brother.
“Well,
I reckon he needs to get his eyes tested, ’cause there’s a fair
few in here tonight.” Aiden snickered, looking around the room.
“Very
funny,” Matt scorned. “I met a beautiful woman today and now I
don’t know where she is. You seen a new face in town? Real pretty,
she is—long wavy brown hair, big seductive eyes and a mouth that
was just made for kissing.” He noticed Aiden shift a little
uncomfortably before he replied.
“Was
she working at the general store, by any chance?”
Matt
felt his heart lurch. “Yes, that’s her! Any idea where she’s
staying? I wanted to meet up with her after she finished work but I
missed her.”
“I
think maybe you should take the hint, bud. I’ll bet it wasn’t an
accident she left early.” Dyson chuckled.
“Oh,
ha ha! She didn’t know I’d be coming by. I just thought I’d
surprise her. Maybe take her to dinner or something, you know?”
Matt protested.
“So
it wasn’t actually a date or anything, then?” Aiden appeared a
bit happier.
“Well
it would have been if I’d been a little earlier.” Matt felt quite
defensive, given his friend’s demeanor. “Do you know where she’s
staying?”
Aiden
shook his head as he drank his beer. “I wouldn’t be standing here
right now if I did.”
Matt
felt the heat sear his body and he stared at him. “I saw her first.
I’m going to ask her out.” He spoke through gritted teeth and
seethed as Aiden straightened up and looked him straight in the eye.
“I
intend to ask her out.” His voice was calm, which infuriated Matt
even more.
“Now
boys, we don’t want any trouble,” Dyson giggled. “You just play
nice now, d’ya hear?”
“Tell
him to leave my girl alone, then.” Matt’s teeth were still
clenched, as were his fists.
“Your
girl? I think I remember you saying that you hadn’t exactly asked
her out and then you were late picking her up anyhow. Doesn’t sound
very promising to me.” Aiden’s smarmy attitude was getting on
Matt’s last nerve, and he slammed the bottle on the counter.
“Not
in here,” Dyson growled in his ear.
Matt
nodded, biting his lip angrily. “I’m off to get some air,” he
muttered as he left the bar.
He
could hear Aiden Fielding’s raucous laughter, but he didn’t look
back.

“Oh
no you don’t.” He was way too quick for her and grabbed her arms,
pulling her close to him with a smile that could light up the sky on
a foggy winter’s night.
His
spicy scent surrounded her as his mouth came down to meet hers and he
took her lips in a long, lingering kiss. Carla felt her insides turn
to mush and she reached up and ran her fingers through his dark, wavy
hair as he loosened his grip on her arms. He took her in his embrace
and she moaned into his mouth as the kiss seemed to last forever.
She
gradually became aware of Dyson snuggling in behind her and she
gasped.
“Shh,”
Dyson whispered in her ear and she felt a clench in her pussy.
Feeling
both guys’ arms around her, Matt kissing her mouth while Dyson
nuzzled her neck, was like heaven on earth. Relaxing slightly, she
reached back with one hand, eager to touch both of them at the same
time.
Dyson
chuckled, his voice reverberating through his chest and tickling her
back, as his hand took hers, placing her trembling fingers against
his hot face.
Carla
felt a burn in her stomach as she tipped her head back, relishing the
tenderness of the two guys, who continued to caress and stroke her
fevered body.
Eventually
she opened her eyes to see Matt smiling back at her with a glazed
expression. Dyson moved into her line of sight, also smiling, a
languid look on his face, which reassured her that everything was all
right. Their arms were still draped around her, surrounding her in
their warmth.
She
stared from one handsome face to the other, as myriad questions
flooded her addled brain.
“You
ever had two guys before, baby?” Dyson’s question somehow seemed
to answer all of hers and she shook her head slowly.
“You
don’t know what you’ve been missing,” Matt growled salaciously.
She
felt her pussy clench and gawped up at him.
“We
like to share,” Dyson explained. If that was
an explanation! It was actually a statement which threw up a whole
host of new questions in her mind and she gulped as she tried to take
it all in.
Their
calm smiles told her they could read her mind, and, though she didn’t
quite know why, she found that a comfort.
The
guys shifted positions slightly and Dyson slowly moved forward,
taking her mouth in a sensual kiss which felt like it could last all
day. His soft tongue tangled with hers and she gently probed his cool
mouth. Dyson’s calm serenity surrounded her, reassuring and
relaxing her, while he covered her in tender kisses and gentle
caresses.
She
could feel Matt behind her this time, his stubble deliciously
tickling the back of her neck as he nibbled his way down to her
shoulders. He carefully pulled back the elasticized neckline of her
gypsy top and she gasped as she felt his hot mouth explore her upper
back.
She
closed her eyes and relaxed into the confident ministrations of the
two gorgeous hunks, losing herself in the feeling of sensuality and
tenderness.
Matt’s
long fingers found their way around to her stomach and she gasped as
he ran his hands up and down her torso, not quite reaching her
breasts then almost—but not exactly—probing her waistband. She
balked as anticipation mounted within her, and felt her breathing
become heavier as she let the feelings wash over her.
“Shh,”
Matt soothed in her ear and she gulped, realizing how much he could
sense her excitement.
She
leaned back into his heaving chest and noticed that she wasn’t the
only one who was becoming affected. Dyson licked and teased his way
down her neck and throat as she gasped for air, and she felt the
smoothness of his face as his kisses gradually sank lower down her
body. The elastic of her top was being stretched as Dyson’s mouth
sought its way south, and she suddenly felt abandoned and wanton. She
willed him to pull her left breast from the confines of its cup as he
nibbled and nipped his way down with his hot lips. His deep chuckle
told her that he had once again read her mind, but he didn’t act on
her wishes.
“Wanna
get more comfy?” Dyson whispered, lifting his face momentarily and
leaving her feeling bereft.
Her
eyes sprang open and she gasped as she took in his dazed, dark green
eyes.
About
Bella Settarra
In
Bella’s world all the heroes are gorgeous hunks and the heroines
are always beautiful. Having said that, she firmly believes that
‘handsome is as handsome does’ and that ‘beauty is in the eye
of the beholder’. (She is also a big fan of clichés as well as
alliteration!)
She
has been hanging out with her ‘imaginary friends’ for a couple of
years now and finds the profession exhilarating and intriguing. Her
stories are all Erotic Romances, although they vary considerably in
subject-matter.
One
of the things she absolutely loves to write is light BDSM and her
Collar and Cuffs
series (Etopia Press) received an ARe
Bestseller Award
for Waiting
on Summer,
which has also been nominated for a BDSM
Con Golden Flogger Award.
This series was set in a BDSM club in Miami, and was a joy to write.
She
also loves writing Cowboy Romances and was thrilled when the first
book in her The
Men of Moone Mountain
series, (Etopia Press), entitled Ménage
on Moone Mountain,
received a nomination for the Ménage
Romances Fan’s Award 2015
and became an ARe
Bestseller,
and the third book in this series, Ménage
on Ryder Ranch
was also nominated for the Erotic
Ménages Romances Award 2016.
The fourth book in this series,
Ménage at the Mode Boutique
is now also available in digital format. She is currently writing
another Cowboy series, Midnight
in Montana (Siren
Publishing), the first of which, Dallas
at Midnight,
is already available in digital and print formats, while the second
book, Meet
Me at Midnight, has
recently been released and is available only in digital format at
present.
Her
latest release is Carla’s
Cowboys,
which is the first of her brand new series, The
Cowboys of Cavern County
(Totally Bound Publishing).
Her
writing career began, however, in the fantasy/myth genre, with her
first series Sirens
and Sailors
(Siren Publishing). Although this was a series of six novels, it
actually started out as a short story! This was a delight to write
and was proof positive that her High School Classical Studies lessons
weren’t entirely wasted.
She
has also had a couple of short stories published in Men
for Hire
and Men
for Hire
2
(Luminosity Publishing) and even had some rather raunchy poems
included in Coming
Together in Verse.
Not
everyone is perfect – but it’s the character flaws which make
them interesting, she believes. As in life, things don’t always run
smoothly, but it’s the twists and turns which provide the drive to
keep going, even when it just feels like an uphill struggle. Bella is
currently fighting her own battle against breast cancer – a battle
which she is determined to win – and believes that all women have
the right to feel sexy even when they are battle-scarred.
